Care Guide
Laundry & Care Guide
At Leontine Linens, our products are designed to be both beautiful and functional, making them easy to care for in the comfort of your home. Follow these simple tips to keep your linens looking their best. If you need assistance with a specific care issue, please reach out to us via our contact page.
General Care
- Wash Before Use: Prewashing softens fabrics, improves absorbency, and prevents pilling by removing lint and loose fibers.
- Avoid Bleach and Fabric Softeners: These can damage fibers, causing discoloration or reduced absorbency. Instead, opt for a gentle, non-alkaline detergent.
- Separate Colors and Textures: Keep lights and darks apart, and avoid mixing piqué, terry, or delicate fabrics with rougher items like towels.
Washing Instructions
- Gentle Machine Wash: Use cold or warm water on a gentle cycle. Always rinse with cold water to protect fibers and prevent shrinkage.
- Use Less Detergent: Stick to half the recommended amount and dilute it before adding linens to the basin.
- Rinse Thoroughly: Detergent residue can damage fibers and cause discoloration over time. If in doubt, run a second rinse cycle.
Drying Tips
- Remove linens promptly after washing to reduce wrinkles.
- Shake out items before drying to speed up drying time and minimize creases.
- Use low heat or line-dry when possible. Over-drying can weaken fibers.
Special Fabrics & Products
- Hand-Quilted Comforters: Wash in a front-loading machine to prevent damage, tumble dry on low, and never iron.
- Terry Towels: Prewash before use to increase softness and absorbency. Avoid fabric softeners, and simply snip, not pull, any snags. Launder terry items alone, do not mix with other items.
- Down Products: Use a duvet cover to protect your investment. Fluff daily and launder sparingly, using a front-loading machine with cold water and gentle detergent.
- Silk Items: Wash inside out, avoid abrasive zippers or buttons, and tumble dry on low until slightly damp. Press to restore sheen.
Helpful Habits
- Rotate Your Linens: Alternate between 2-3 sets to extend their lifespan and ensure even wear.
- Iron If Desired: While not necessary, pressed linens always look their best. To minimize ironing, remove items from the dryer while slightly damp.
- Store with Care: Store down products in cotton bags, not plastic, to prevent moisture buildup.
Common Concerns
- Shrinkage: Natural fibers may shrink 2-10%. Leontine linens are pre-sized to account for this, but avoid hot water or high dryer heat.
- Pilling: Wash linens separately to reduce abrasion, and prewash to eliminate loose fibers.
- Snags: Trim loose threads on embroidery or appliqué embellishments. Avoid pulling to maintain the integrity of your linens.
