How to Build Your Dream Bed

The Layers of a Well-Made Bed

Design your bed from the inside out, beginning with the essentials and ending with the perfect finishing touches.

Fitted Sheet, Flat Sheet, and Pillow Cases

Your sheets are the layer closest to your skin, making them one of the most personal choices in your bedding ensemble. Whether you prefer the cool crispness of percale or the smooth warmth of sateen, comfort is key. Because sheets are mostly hidden when the bed is made, they become a private indulgence—an ideal place for a monogram or decorative border chosen just for you. And since they don’t need to match the rest of your bedding, you have room to play. We recommend rotating a few favorite sets to preserve their quality and keep your bed feeling fresh, every night.

- Special Tips -

Consider ordering a sham style case instead of a regular pillow case if you like a more tailored look.

With Leontine Linens, every piece is made to order, which means there is no standard bundle - if you sleep with 4 pillows or various pillow sizes, we can customize the set to match your exact sleeping needs.

Blanket Cover

Consider the blanket cover your bed’s quiet hero—lightweight, easy to care for, and endlessly versatile. Made from our custom-milled pique fabric, it offers a crisp, tailored look that’s as refined as it is relaxed. Washer and dryer safe with no need for pressing, it’s designed for real life—and for those who love to live in their bed. Whether finished simply with a classic 1" band or dressed up with ornate monograms and decorative borders, the blanket cover helps transform your bed into the beautiful centerpiece of your room. A true everyday staple, all year round.

- Special Tips -

For winter months, you can layer a duvet or down blanket under your blanket cover to give you the warmth of a duvet cover with a tidier look.

Leontine's blanket covers have a standard 16" drop which offers ample coverage and can even be tucked for a more tailored look.  That said, the drop can be customized for your unique needs.

Shams

Shams are the decorative pillows that not only conceal your everyday sleeping pillows but add height, scale, and visual balance to the overall arrangement. At Leontine, we offer a wide range of sizes and shapes—from classic standards to dramatic Euros—so you can mix and layer to suit your personal style and how you love to dress the bed. Whether minimal or maximal, shams add sophisticated layers to your ensemble.

- Special Tips -

While Leontine offers a series of standard and custom sizes unique to our collection, we can also accommodate custom sizes. So, if you have a special insert size that you just love to incorporate on your bed, let us know and we can make a cover to measure.

Hate having to relocate bunches of pillows to get into bed every night? Consider a blanket cover with over-pillow length or a body pillow for a much simpler approach to making the bed.

Duvet Cover

At Leontine, we consider the duvet cover a layering piece to be used in combination with the essential blanket cover. We recommend folding it neatly at the foot, especially in cooler months or year-round in cooler climates, as a complement to the tailored look of a blanket cover. Prefer a more relaxed, cozy feel? The duvet cover can be used in place of the blanket cover.

- Special Tips -

If you prefer the look of pique or linen for your duvet fabric, we recommend using sheeting on the reverse to help keep the duvet cover lightweight.

Duvet inserts come in a wide range of sizes and are not consistent from brand to brand. Leontine lists a standard duvet cover size that corresponds with our luxurious corresponding down and down-alternative products. If you are not purchasing your down insert from Leontine, we highly recommend you confirm the dimensions of your insert with our sales team to ensure a perfect fit.

Duvets and their covers are generally not sized to provide full mattress coverage, which is another reason to pair the duvet cover with a blanket cover. If you specify duvet cover dimensions to provide a certain amount of drop on your bed, first be sure you have a corresponding down insert to fit inside!

Quilt

For a layer that adds both richness and color, Leontine’s hand-stitched quilts are a beautiful alternative to a duvet cover. Whether used year-round or alternated with a duvet cover depending on the season, these heirloom-quality pieces bring a touch of couture craftsmanship to the foot of the bed. Made from washable charmeuse satin, they offer a subtle sheen, a soft hand, and durability that stands the test of time.

- Special Tips -

Quilts are the perfect way to incorporate color to a Leontine bed, with a wide range of colors designed to compliment our trim and embroidery colors.

Often, quilts can be sized down for folding at the foot of the bed - consider a throw size folded on the foot of a twin bed, a twin size folded at the foot of a queen bed, or a queen size folded at the foot of a king bed.
