# What is a Blanket Cover?

### What is a blanket cover?

---

A blanket cover, also called a coverlet, is a lightweight bed cover designed to both provide decoration and add a layer of warmth. If you use woolen or cashmere blankets which are not easily cleaned, the blanket cover helps protect the blankets from everyday wear and tear. Unlike a bedspread, the blanket cover is a single layer and is not a quilted material. Leontine Linens uses traditional [pique material](https://leontinelinens.com/design-elements/fabrics) for the blanket covers, which is easy-care and designed for everyday use and [laundering](https://leontinelinens.com/care-guide), unlike matelaisse which has a high shrink rate and easily misshapens with home care.
