Felt Liners

The Subtle Key to a Well-Set Table

Published on

When setting the table, felt liners are a small addition with a big impact.

A felt liner, sometimes called a silencer, is made from a dense white felt fabric cut slightly smaller than the finished size of your placemat. Besides the fact that they dampen dining noise (hence the name "silencer"), Jane Scott loves these liners for three main reasons.

Felt liners protect your table by wicking away spills and shielding it from scratches or dents.

They add presence to the plate/placemat by providing slight elevation off the surface of the table or tablecloth.

For white or ivory linen placemats, felt liners help create a cleaner look by blocking the color of the table or tablecloth from showing through the placemat.
