Our Guide to Monograms
Find the style that tells your story.

3-Letter Monogram: Traditional
The most classic and widely recognized monogram style features three letters, with the surname initial centered and enlarged.
Choosing Your Initials:
For an individual's monogram:
First Name | Last Name | Maiden or Middle Name
For a married couple (traditional):
Wife's First Name | Married Surname | Wife's Maiden Name
For a married couple (modern):
Wife's First Name | Married Surname | Husband's First Name

Linen Tip:
Traditionally, the wife's monogram is used throughout the household, with the exception of bar linens! These can sport the husband's initials, the combined first initials of the couple, a single initial for the shared last name, and more.

3-Letter Monogram: Straight Across
This monogram style places all three initials in a straight line, in equal size and order: First Name, Middle Name, then Last Name. This is a great choice for an individual's monogram.
2-Letter Monogram: Ciphers
A cipher is a graceful way to pair two initials where the letters are overlapped and intertwined one atop the other. It’s typically used for First and Last Name, omitting the middle initial, or to represent two first or two last names—perfect for couples who keep their respective surnames.
2-Letter Monogram: Straight Across
This style features two initials of equal size placed side-by-side. Like the cipher, it can represent either First and Last Name or two first or two last names for a couple.

Single Letters
A single initial is perfect for representing either the First Name or Last Name. Ideal for guest spaces or more casual linens like cocktail napkins.
Names
While not a monogram, sometimes a name is the perfect way to personalize a space. Often chosen for baby gifts or children's spaces, names are also a perfect option for incorporating a property name, such as a vacation home or a yacht.
